This anodes (+ 2 cathodes) has been conceived to produce 99,9 % perchlorate in ONE step from table salt : NaCl solution, in 2 stages in the same cell by just changing a connector.
That is why this coating has been called P999 cause it contains Platinum (within other noble metals) and goal to get 99,9% Perchlorate (P) up to this safest concentration.
The MMO face (Black) of the anode is coated with same material than the “Ir99” anode but a bit less thick.
The Perchlorate face (clear-Grey) of the Anode is made with noble metals to pass chlorate into perchlorate.
The guaranty of success to reach 99,9% perchlorate is to keep the cathode of perchlorate clean as possible, that is a bit complicated the first run (lot of black deposition on the cathode) and need to be sanded by hand or electric machine especially in the first run (to improve the yield and use less time).
The Set :
You can select your size according to your needs :
Currently 2 size are in stock :
– 100x25mm with M6x1x25mm standard metric thread
– 200x50mm with M8x1,25x25mm standard metric thread
You can select into the 4 options :
a) Simple set 100x25mm with M6x1x25mm thread + 2 cathodes (for 4~6Amps)
b) Simple set of 200x50mm with M8x1x25mm thread + 2 cathodes (for 17 to 23Amps)
c) The set 100x25mm with lid (everything to use it except the PSU + regulator)
d) The total setup in 100×25 with PSU+ regulator (ready to use after mounting the connectors)
Specification :
– This Anode’s coating has been specially designed, after years of research and development, to run your cell until 99,9% of perchlorate (on the clear face).
– Unfortunately, the yield become bad at high concentration of perchlorate. That mean, from my experience and those of other customers, it is better to aim between 85 to 95% of perchlorate with remaining chlorate. But by keeping the cathode quite clean, you should reach 99,9% as expected firstly (a video is in preparation).
– Anode’s technology : a special MMO coating (having a huge mass of Iridium) coating on Titanium substrate, and the other with special metals like Platinum, provides excellent resistance to chemicals, and oxidation, especially in perchlorate cells.
– Anode size : described in your selection, and shown in the pictures.
– Cathode size : exactly the same as Anode
– The lifetime is high, but depends on the use conditions.
– Max recommend current is 180mA/chlorate and 230 mA/Cm2 for perchlorate.
– Max recommended working temperature: 70 to 80°C
– Durable and reliable laboratory equipment.
– Persulfate (K or Na) is strongly advised for a longer life-span and efficiency of this anodes (it stabilize your brine’s pH near 6,5).
– The dirty behavior of PbO2 anode disappear with this anode, as well as the need to produce chlorate with an MMO anode (but first runs are always slightly dirty anyway).
– Note : the first run, a very little dark particles are falling on the bottom of the tank’s brine, it is normal, like all MMO. It can be impressive for those who expect nothing but it is a natural behavior ! The problem is : these particles are partially deposited on the cathode lowering the yield, for perchlorate especially. You need to sand it from time to time if you want to going over 95%.
Warning:
– The coating is quite sensitive, it can be scratch.
– Respect the max current to avoid fast degradation.
– Don’t reverse polarity, it will rapidly destroyed the electrodes (+ wire on the black anode)
– Gas are dangerous and flammable, the running cell MUST work in appropriate place.
– Read the manual please !
– In some countries, for non-laboratories, some (per)-chlorate and their concentrations are restricted.
