This anodes (+ cathodes) has been conceived to produce 99,9 % perchlorate in ONE step from table salt : NaCl solution.
That is why this coating has been called Ir99 cause it contains many more iridium (like 5 times) than classic MMO.
In practice, the electric yield decrease a lot, which makes access to 99% concentration very long and complicated, 95% is much more realistic.
They are, more or less, life guaranty.
The Set :
You can select simple or double side coating according to your needs :

– 100x25mm with M6x1x25mm standard metric thread
– 200x50mm with M8x1,25x25mm standard metric thread
You can select into the 3 options :
a) Simple face 100x25mm with M6x1x25mm thread + cathode (for 6.25Amps)
b) Double face 100x25mm with M6x1x25mm thread + cathode
c) Triplette with double face 100x25mm with M6x1x25mm thread + 2cathodes (for 12.5Amps)
Specification :
– This Anode’s coating has been specially designed, after 4 years of research and development, to run your cell until 99,9% of perchlorate.
– Unfortunately, the yield become VERY low at high concentration of perchlorate, for unknown reason, that mean, from my experience and those of other customers, it is better to aim between 85 to 95% of perchlorate with remaining chlorate. Cause it seems to take an infinite time to reach 99,9% as expected firstly (at the difference of PbO2 coating and pure platinum).
– Anode’s technology : a special MMO coating (having a huge mass of Iridium) coating on Titanium substrate, provides excellent resistance to chemicals, and oxidation, especially in perchlorate cells.
– Anode size : described in your selection, and shown in the pictures.
– Cathode size : exactly the same as Anode
– The lifetime is high, but depends on the use conditions. (estimation : 40 to 50 000 hours = 5 years of continuous work for chlorate production).
– Max recommend current is 240 mA/Cm2 (tested during months in perchlorate cell).
– Max recommended working temperature: 60 to 70°C
– This anode allow electrolysis from chloride to 90-95% perchlorate in one step.
– Durable and reliable laboratory equipment.
– For a longer life-span and efficiency of this anodes, we suggest to stabilize your brine’s pH near 6 to 7 with a salt like persulfate for example.
– Coating : this coating represent the advantage to produce easily chlorates until perchlorates without “blocking problems”, contrary to PbO2 anodes, and continue to perchlorate, (with a suggested “chock” of persulfate).
– The dirty behavior of PbO2 anode disappear with this anode, as well as the need to produce chlorate with an MMO anode.
– Note : the first run, a very little dark particles are falling on the bottom of the tank’s brine, it is normal, like all MMO. It can be impressive for those who expect nothing but it is a natural behavior !
Warning:
– The coating is quite sensitive, it can be scratch.
– Respect the max current to avoid fast degradation.
– Don’t reverse polarity, it will rapidly destroyed the electrodes (+ wire on the black anode)
– Gas are dangerous and flammable, the running cell MUST work in appropriate place.
– Read the manual.
– In some countries, for non-laboratories, some (per)-chlorate and their concentrations are restricted.
