This set is designed to allow you to manufacture your own engine rocket motor for standard 3inches shells or other cylinder shell, up to 150g of payload.
Your servant, I, Feanor, designed this device (with love) to be easy to use, cheap, and worldwide free shipping.
You just need standard A4 paper black powder with excess of charcoal for nice golden starry hairs.
Parameters of fabrication (best method so far, can still be improved):
– 9 sheet of paper A4 80g/m² white or not (the white is not more pollutant)
– Black powder fuel 1/3/6 in weight with : Sulfur : 1 Charcoal : 3 KNO3 (salpeter) : 6
– Tape (Gummed tape or scotch/adhesive tape, but think about ecology please !)
– Bentonite in powder (cat litter of bentonite works very well too)
– Plastic hammer (camping mallet/hammer)
– Funnel to charge the tube in powder (Plastic…)
– Safety glasses of protection, or better : full face integral mask.
Steps :
(A tutorial video will be coming soon, but I’m waiting for the rainy season for that!!!)
1) Screw the Inox needle on the Aluminium base.
2) Roll 9 sheets of paper around the aluminium tube and scotch it all arround.
3) Put the paper tube of 20mm inner diameter on the needle.
4) Pour near 8 to 15 grams of bentonite according to the size of particles and your experience.
5) Use the aluminium cylinder to smash the powder several time (like 4~5) with the hammer, by using a minimum shock equivalent of 5 joules (1Kg falling from 50Cm height)
6) after 45/50grams of “fuel-black-powder” try to reach +16 to 22mm over the tip of the needle, to calibrate the “delay of the explosion” of the charge of your rocket : 18mm is my value to make it burst at the right moment.
7) Add the final bentonite plug, by 4 to 5 grams ad smash it with the aluminium cylinder or another 19 to 20mm rod to finish your rocket’ plug. (usually, 12~14grams is enough).
8) With your hand, drill your plug with 3 to 4,5mm standard drill until the black powder. It is the pass-fire-hole.
9) You can then fix your firework charge according to your project.
Quality :
The machining is accurate and quine beautiful, the needle is in inox 304 to guaranty a smooth and durable application.
The support and tube are in hard aluminium alloy to decrease the weight for international shipping, and lower the final price.
(Very insignificant little scratches are possible due to bulk manipulation in storage).
I do my best to enable people to manufacture interesting things at lower price (in the first taxed country in the world!).
